Basmati Rice ½ cup
Moong Dal (Split Yellow Lentils) ½ cup
Ghee (Clarified Butter) 2 tbsp
Cumin (Jeera) Seeds 1 tsp
Ginger (grated) 1 tsp
Green Chili (chopped) 1 (optional)
Turmeric Powder ½ tsp
Hing (Asafoetida) ¼ tsp
Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) As per taste
Water 4 cups
Carrot (chopped) ¼ cup
Green Peas ¼ cup
French Beans (chopped) ¼ cup
Potato (diced) ¼ cup
Tomato (chopped) ½ cup
Fresh Coriander Leaves 2 tbsp (chopped)


Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe. How to make at home.

  1. Preparation
  2. Wash rice and moong dal thoroughly and soak for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Chop up all the vegetables and keep aside.
    Step 2: Cooking Process
  4. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker or deep pan.
  5. Add cumin seeds, hing, ginger, and green chili. Saute for 30 seconds.
  6. Add turmeric powder and chopped vegetables. Stir for a minute.
  7. Drain and add soaked rice and moong dal. Mix well.
  8. Pour in water and salt. Stir everything together.
  9. Close and cook for 2 whistles in a pressure cooker or 25 minutes on a stovetop till soft.
  10. Release pressure naturally.
  11. Serve as prasad to offer sweetening to the divine rule. Top with fresh coriander leaves.
